INUUTEQ STORCH: BREATHE THE ICE

SOLO EXHIBITION AT POLITIKENS FORHAL, COPENHAGEN

For this site-specific installation at Politikens Forhal, Greenlandic artist Inuuteq Storch engages in a critical and poetic dialogue with JP/Politikens Hus’s extensive photo archive, which spans over a century of Danish photojournalism. Drawing on his ongoing interest in photographic histories and cultural representation, Storch selects and recontextualizes archival images of Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland), presenting them in large-scale, ghost-like newspaper fragments that hang suspended in time.

With this work, Storch examines how Greenland and its people have historically been portrayed by the Danish media and questions the power dynamics embedded in these visual narratives. By bringing these images into a new artistic context, he reclaims a voice in the telling of his homeland’s story, shifting the gaze and challenging inherited perceptions of Inuit identity and culture.
