At Orthunga, Maiken Bent and Pipilotti Rist meet in a compelling duo exhibition where emotion, form, and the symbolism of water are central.
Pipilotti Rist’s iconic video work Sip My Ocean (1996) fills the space with a swirling, underwater love song, a looped, desperate cry against heartbreak that moves between the poetic and the absurd. This emotionally charged atmosphere sets the tone for Maiken Bent’s three new sculptural works, created in direct response to Rist’s piece.
Bent draws on everyday water-related objects -pool ladders, boat cradles, fenders - which she transforms into mirrored, psychosomatic sculptures. Through materials like hoses, chains, and soft padding, her works explore the tension between connection and isolation, buoyancy and weight.
Together, the two artists create a space suspended between surface and depth — a shared emotional terrain where vulnerability, resistance, and desire take physical form.
