Hannah Toticki (b. 1984), works on subjects such as the modern day’s relationship to work, productivity and technological development, and how it influences our relationship to bodies, to sleep patterns and to nature. Though her themes are serious, her approach is often humoristic. With inspiration from fashion and theater, Toticki twists and turns everyday-like objects so that they can effectively protect us from our own effectivity. In her aesthetic world work and consumption is an infinite burden, and the body and its clothing is merely functional. Toticki playfully alternates between sculpture, installations, garments and performances. Her oeuvre consists, for instance, of an embroidered sleepy eye in colorful pearls, a blue plastic swimsuit with webbed fingers, and glasses and gloves that protect the user from smartphones, by creating a gap for much needed rest and presence.

Hannah Toticki graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2016. Toticki has exhibited at EMST National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens, MOCAD Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and Galleri Wedding, Berlin, at Copenhagen Contemporary, O-Overgaden - Institute of Contemporary Art, Brandts Kunstmuseum, HEART Herning Museum of Contemporary Art.She has performed at venues such as KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, the National Gallery in Prague, the Glyptoteket, and Roskilde Festival. She has received the Wessel-Bagge Scholarship, the Astrid Noack Scholarship, the StartPoint Prize at the National Gallery in Prague, and the Talent Prize from the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie CarlNielsen Scholarship. In 2022, she received the three-year working grant from the Danish Arts Foundation.
